Bounds Street

"Good music, good friends, and a good time---that's what we're talkin' about!" And that's an apt description of the Jackson-based, Celtic band Bounds Street. Tim Avalon (fiddle, mandolin, banjo and guitar) is the genius behind the group's diverse repertoire and creative arrangements. In addition to his numerous original compositions, Tim breathes new life into traditional tunes. Whether it be a reel on slide guitar with a Delta Blues drawl or a lively Old Time fiddle medley, Tim moves from instrument to musical genre with skill and ease. Mary Fitzgerald (percussion) is an expert player of the bodhran. In addition, she brings energizing Latino influences (bongos, shakers, tambourine) from her Hispanic heritage into traditional Celtic musical forms. Heather Mitchell (bouzouki, flute) brings dynamic and skillful bouzouki playing to the band. Heather and Mary ("the engine room") collaborate to provide the substantive and driving rhythms that are a hallmark of Bounds Street. Susan Wellman (tinwhistle, lead vocals) draws upon her Appalachian background as well as extensive classical training in performance of traditional dance tunes and songs. Chico Sittman (sound man, jewes harp) runs the sound system for the band and also, on an occasional tune, joins in with the jewes harp.
