Brendan Bulger is a native
of South Boston, MA. He began studying Irish fiddle music at age twelve with Seamus
Connolly and at age sixteen won an All-Ireland Fiddle title. He graduated in 1998 from
Harvard University with an AB in Folklore and Mythology, and completed a thesis on
performance practices and venues of Irish music in Boston from the 1940's to present. He
has played bass guitar and fiddle with many local and touring Irish musicians and bands,
has contributed to several commercial recording projects, and has been a featured soloist
with the Plymouth (MA) Philharmonic Orchestra, Brendan's professional credits also include
arranging and performing music for Boston University's Huntington Theater production of
Edwin O'Conner's The Last Hurrah (1999), instructing fiddle students at Boston's Gaelic
Roots seminar (2000), and performing at numerous Irish music festivals, including
Stonehill, Wolftrap, Milwaukee, and Chicago's Gaelic Park. The Boston Globe has called him
"prodigiously talented" and his music has been the subject of articles in Boston
Magazine, Treoir, and other publications. Mr. Bulger presently lives in Chicago where he
performs and teaches Irish fiddle.
