Zip Gibson, a famous BMI
writer with a large catalog of songs, heads up The
ZGB. After being brought to Nashville by Steve Earle in 1983,
touring and recording with Steve through the Shut Up and Die Like an Aviator album,
Zip began to pursue his own music and songs. Zip formed The ZGB to showcase his writing
skills. Zip's giant catalog at BMI includes Jazz, Rock, Blues, and Folk.
In September 1998, Abacus Records was founded, became a Liquid Audio Partner and by
December 7th, 1998 Abacus Records first product, Per Mare Per Terra Per Astra by Ceol Inis was launched aboard the Space Shuttle Endeavor
during the STS88 mission to join the two halves of the International Space Station. Track
1 was used as wake up call on Dec. 7th, 1998. Zip, being very out front in the music
industry, recognized the significance of the Abacus achievement and was signed with Abacus
in December 1998. Abacus produced 9 releases for The ZGB before January 1 of 1999. These 9
releases are a Box Set.
This prolific BMI writer did not stop there. In the first quarter of
1999 The ZGB released Revolution Revised. In the second
quarter of 1999, The ZGB released Blue Moon, an acoustic folk
album featuring Zips outstanding vocals. Also released in 1999 was The
Sky Is Falling. Zip has dedicated the Sky Is Falling to all Viet Nam Veterans and has
plans to set up a half way house for Vets who were never able to get back into the world.
Zip plans to use earnings from the song 'Not So Fonda Jane' for this purpose (Thanks
Mongo). As the Biker Bar was the place that provided The ZGB launch pad, Zip dedicated a
limited edition compilation CD, Biker Bar Blues, to the Biker
Bar as a thank you for their support.
Zip Gibson released "Revolution EP" in 1998.
This two song EP was produced by Richard Bennett and
Rocky Schnaars in the belief that The ZGB would sky rocket soon. Zip is currently planning
to make a full album produced by Richard and Rocky. Keep an eye on this group. They were
launched at the Biker Bar in East Nashville on Memorial Day 1999 and are still climbing. |
